One month after launch

We launched OneIS one month ago. What have we learnt in our first few weeks?

We learnt that:

  • the sign up process works well! You’ve told us it’s quick, straightforward and easy.
  • word has got around. At a drinks reception recently, I got talking to a group where all four people had signed up and tried out OneIS!
  • once you’ve got your new blank system, it’s sometimes daunting to know what to do next. So, we’ve added interactive “How to get started” notes to the homepage, which help you get started by using big red arrows to show you where to click.
  • OneIS works well in Internet Explorer 8, launched just a few weeks ago. But continuing to support Internet Explorer 6 (now that it has been superseded twice) is going to become more and more difficult. Very few OneIS users use Internet Explorer 6 and it takes a disproportionately large amount of our time to keep working around its many foibles. Since we’d prefer to build new features, we’ve now downgraded our support for Internet Explorer 6. We’ll continue to try our best to support it, but if you are still using it we really encourage you to move to a modern browser.
  • supporting more Mac OS X formats wasn’t as much work as we anticipated, thanks to the handily-timed release of iWork ’09.
  • running a hosted application is great for continuously releasing new features and upgrades.
  • very few people fill in feedback questionnaires! We’ll have to think up some alternative ways of getting that all important feedback from you.

We’re looking forward to our second month, meeting more of our users, and making OneIS even more useful for you.
